Abstract

The arrival of the digital revolution has modified TVE’s production system, as occurred in other broadcast companies all over the world. This essay offers a view of the daily workflows in a Spanish national television newsroom, and how the work-team manages information used to produce daily news programs. Media librarians are responsible for dealing with the incoming media and creating metadata and locators to facilitate searching/recovery processing and guide the department responsible for media selection and transfer to the digital library. In this digital newsroom, a new professional profile, the media manager, has emerged to manage the production and broadcasting servers. Media librarians who work in these environments must have a broad general knowledge of all the processes involved, as well as the work done by everyone who participates in them and the tools that are used.

Abstract

The creation of autonomous public Television in the Principality of Asturias inside of digital environment, involved the use of the latest technologies in production of audiovisual content, the MAM (Media Asset Management), specifically the implementation of Dalet Plus. This article shows the documentation procedures and information flow management systems of these audio-visual contents, from images entering the system until they go to the archive. It describes the Documentation experience in the launch of a project that integrates all the processes of generating of multimedia content in mass media.

Abstract

Television archives are engaged in a significant process of transformation involving everyday functions and procedures as well as their overall role in media organizations. The confluence of two elements produces this change: the complete digitization of the flow of production and the fragmentation and decentralization of the audio-visual market. The determining factors are identified, along with the risks and opportunities that media professionals must channel toward the development of a new model of audio-visual content management based on access and the hybridization of tasks and skills.
