The recreation of the myth of Hercules in Fieras afemina amor, the Calderonian mythological comedy composed on the occasion of the birthday of Queen Regent María Ana (December 1669), offers already at the Loa clear indications that invite an allusive and allegorical interpretation of the piece. In fact, in the intense hermeneutical debate about its greater or lesser political significance, part of the criticism has tried to find the concrete historical references of its complex and ingenious mythical architecture. In our pages we intend to show to what extent the novelties, contaminations and hybridizations that Calderón brings to the mythical material can help to highlight, from the distance of the artist in the elaboration of his work, relevant aspects of the contemporary situation.
