A Scipedia’s microsite is a cluster of pages linked to an institution that have specialized aesthetics and functionality. The microsite's home page can have its own domain name. The specialized microsite environment will generally include a button allowing entrance and exit towards the general Scipedia site.
The microsite is associated with an institution. It can have specialized aesthetics and functionality.
When entering through a specific link to the microsite, the specialized aesthetics and functionality of the microsite are activated.
Once the microsite is activated, it maintains the image of the associated institution throughout the whole portal.
The personalized functionality of the microsite can include the use of customized email templates.
The specialized aesthetics and functionality of the microsite can be activated / deactivated by clicking on a button / menu at the top of the each microsite page.
The microsite activation button appears once a Scipedia user opens a document or collection linked to the microsite.
The main page of the institutional portal becomes the default page of the microsite.
There are users, lists of collections, documents, and statistics pages assigned to the microsite.
A collection is linked to a microsite if it is primary linked to the microsite’s institution.
A user is linked to a microsite if the institution is its primary affiliation.
Within the microsite, priority on the search results is given to the collections, documents and users linked to the microsite.
Unless it has restricted access, any document or collection linked to a microsite will be indexed by the generic Scipedia search engine.
When a user has entered Scipedia through a microsite, it is remembered with a cookie. Next time it enters Scipedia, the specialized aesthetics and functionality of the microsite are activated by default.
The advertising spaces of the microsite can be customized with specific announcements.
Scipedia’s microsites can have an associated domain (URL).
When a microsite is activated, the associated domain is used. When it is deactivated, the user is returned to scipedia.com.
When entering through a link to the associated domain, the domain is maintained throughout the whole portal and the specialized aesthetics and functionality of the microsite are activated.
The documents linked to the microsite will be only indexed through scipedia.com domain.
When a user access scipedia.com through an external link, the specialized aesthetics and functionality of the microsite (and the associated domain) will be activated automatically if the microsite cookie is found.
