This paper focuses on a class of transient response problems in which a flexible structure is submerged in an acoustic fluid satisfying the three-dimensional wave equation. The structure is discretized by finite element methods while the external fluid is modelled by boundary integral techniques resulting in the appearance of a grid of boundary elements on the 'wet' structural surface.
