Deliverable D6.3, ‘Report on monitoring the project developments’, aims to monitor the mid-term progress of the prodPhD project. This deliverable monitors the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the actions in each work package of the project and provides an overall assessment of the results of each pilot action. KPI monitoring was based on the descriptive and evaluative operationalization of the KPIs in D6.1 and the structure developed in D6.2. The KPIs corresponding to each work package were monitored by the leader of each work package in line with their operationalization in D6.1. This end of the project monitoring of the progress of the prodPhD project shows that most of the implemented activities met their targets

Deliverable D5.3, ‘Report on the development results of the pilot actions,’ aims to monitor the pilot actions carried on by the partners to test the entrepreneurship courses proposed during the project. The pilots consisted on the collaborative development of entrepreneurship projects, using the ‘learning by doing’ methodology and materials developed in WP3, and were implemented by using the customized social network platform and collaborative work tools developed in WP4. The evaluation of the pilot actions was carried out using surveys directed towards the students of the courses, and technical staff. As two pilot actions were organized, two surveys were distributed: one to the students of the first demonstration action (July 2022) and one to the students of the second action (January 2023). In the case of technical staff one survey was distributed at the end of the second pilot. The results show that the course improved between the first and the second pilot. However, there are still some issues to address. Some students find it difficult to compaginated the course with their PhD duties. The partners tested the possibility of designing shorter seminars that might be easier for the students to fit in their schedules. As students’ satisfaction with the seminars was high, this might be a possibility for future courses at the PhD level

This document presents the actions taken under Task 5.2 “Selection of students for the demonstration actions”, to launch the call for candidates to participate in the ProdPhD pilot action and prepare the ground for their selection. This call for candidates was open to all the fields of studies of the WEGEMT associates and other collaborating universities (see Table 1) and reached an estimated number of 500 PhD candidates from 29 universities at 16 European countries. The development of the pertinent actions commenced in the end of 2021 and was completed in M19 (June 2022), where communication via e-mails, video calls, phone calls and (limited, due to covid restrictions) physical visits was utilized.

Deliverable D6.2, ‘Report on monitoring the project developments’, aims to monitor the mid-term progress of the prodPhD project. This deliverable monitors the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the actions in each work package of the project and provides an overall assessment of the results of each pilot action. KPI monitoring was based on the descriptive and evaluative operationalization of the KPIs in D6.1. However, the KPIs were initially not assigned specifically to individual work packages; the monitoring was therefore divided into two dimensions. First, the individual work packages were monitored in terms of ‘overall assessment’, where the partners reported the objectives of the work package, partners involved, discrepancies between intended and actual impact, modifications of plan, and progress plan. Second, the KPIs corresponding to each work package were monitored by the leader of each work package in line with their operationalization in D6.1.
This mid-term monitoring of the progress of the prodPhD project shows that the implemented activities thus far meet their corresponding KPIs. In addition, this deliverable also provides an overall assessment of each Work Package (WP). Both the KPI monitoring and the overall assessment of each WP show the activities completed thus far meet their targets and, hence, the prodPhD project is on track to deliver optimal outcomes to meet its aims.

The prodPhD project aims to address the challenging problem of introducing entrepreneurship training in PhD programmes regardless of discipline. The prodPhD project will create the necessary teaching methodologies and the platform for applying them. The project consists of a consortium of four organizations from across Europe. The main objective of the prodPhD project is to implement innovative social network-based methodologies for teaching and learning entrepreneurship in PhD programmes. The multidisciplinary teaching and learning methodologies will enable entrepreneurship education to be introduced into any PhD programme, providing students with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to engage in entrepreneurial activities. The methodology will be conceived to develop experiential knowledge, involving academics, entrepreneurship experts, and mentors in its development and implementation. Besides, the exchange of experience, competences, and approaches facilitated by social networking will pave the way to crowdsourcing new ideas, improving training methodologies, and stimulating academics’ entrepreneurial skills

The project “Social network tools and procedures for developing entrepreneurial skills in PhD programmes” (prodPhD) aims to implement innovative social network-based methodologies for teaching and learning entrepreneurship in PhD programmes. The multidisciplinary teaching and learning methodologies to be developed will enable entrepreneurship education to be introduced into any PhD programme, providing students with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to engage in entrepreneurial activities. However, the use of the output of the project will depend on the nature and profile of the research or scientific field. In this context, key performance indicators (KPIs) form the base on which the quality and scope of the methodologies developed in the project will be quantified and benchmarked.
The project’s final product will be an online tool that higher education students can use to learn entrepreneurship from a social network perspective. Performance measurement is one of the first steps of any project and involves the choice and use of indicators to measure the effectiveness and success of the project’s methods and results. All the KPIs have been selected according to criteria of relevance, measurability, reliability, and adequacy, and they cover the process, dissemination methods, and overall quality of the project. In this document, each KPI is defined together with the units and instruments for measuring it. In the case of qualitative KPIs, five-level Likert scales are defined to improve indicator measurability and reliability.
The KPIs for prodPhD are divided into three main dimensions, depending on the stage of the project they evaluate. The three main dimensions are performance and development (which are highly related to the project’s process), dissemination and impact (which are more closely correlated with the project’s output), and overall project quality. Different sources (i.e., European projects and papers) have been drawn upon to define a set of 51 KPIs classified into six categories, according to the project phase they aim to evaluate. An Excel tool has been developed that collects all the KPIs analysed in the production of this document. This tool is shared in the Scipedia repository.
