No new edition of El Polifemo, or Polifemo y Circe, a play written in 1630 by Antonio Mira de Amescua, Juan Pérez de Montalbán and Pedro Calderón de la Barca, had been published since 1850. The purportedly critical edition by Álvaro Ibáñez Chacón and Francisco José Sánchez, included in the complete plays of Mira de Amescua (Universidad de Granada, 2006) is unsatisfactory. This paper attempts to correctly reconstruct the textual history of the play and the method employed by its recent editors to establish its text.
