Abstract

New safety challenges have to be targeted due to the development of fully automated vehicles in the upcoming future. However, designing safe vehicle automation systems is essential. This work presents a scenario-based methodology for functional safety analysis according to the ISO 26262 using the example of automated valet parking . The vehicle automation system is decomposed into functional scenarios that can occur during operation. Potential malfunctions are identified for each scenario within a hazard analysis and risk assessment . Elaborated safety goals for automated valet parking are presented. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.
